Reprinted 3D road signs
One thing the Town series really lacks, is road signs with a street clock. I made some myself years ago.
After we move in a few years, my dioramas will change, so it forms one big setting. That means that the current road signs will have to change according to JollyOaksField's new layout.
Back then, I printed them when I had far less experience in printing, previous printers were slower, offered less quality prints and had no multi color 3D printer option available.
First mistake I made then was the amount of filling. Since printing one pole took all day, and I never print at night because of safety reasons, more was not an option. Once that the road signs were glued on, they were a bit top heavy and 2 of them have to lean onto a building to keep standing. The new ones have 100% infill and they are bottom heavy. They only took 7 hours to print in the best quality possible each.
Second mistake was the size. The poles itself had to be a higher, so the Sylvs are able to "walk under them" with ease, if you catch my drift. Originally, I made them as high as the lanterns and that did not look as well as I hoped for once they were in place.
Third mistake: I did not create a decent part on the pole to add the actual name signs. Those were glued together and then added to the pole. I corrected that, it looks a lot nice this way and is far more sturdy. Now, they can be glued onto the pole directly.
The white part in the name signs had to be painted back then, which took away a lot of the readability of the text. Printing it in 2 colors is so much nicer.
The only dark green filament I had available back then, which came close to the original Sylvanian lanterns, did not print well. The brand I currently prefer to print with, has a color which comes real close, it's named "Eryone Dark Forest Green". It prints without any effort on my Bambu A1 AMS Combo. I combined it with Eryone silk white.
All I need to do when the time comes, is to glue the correct signs onto the tops.
Compare the print result with an original lantern on the left and a rip-off on the right, on the picture below. Hope you like them!
Beautiful signs! I hope to one day get a 3D printer like you!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The one I have now is A LOT easier than the ones I had before!
