The revamped Sylvanian Theatre 3D print design

At the start of 3D printing, I only had limited designing skills, plus a slow 3D- printer. Hence why most of my threatre was created from wood. It should have been dry when I bought it, but it wasn't. It soon cracked, warped and eventually completely fell apart about 4 years after it was glued together. I suspected this would happen as soon as the first piece fell off, so I started hunting for 3D models early on. But, this is a fond memory of my original Theatre, a vid with a storyline and a twist!

I have to admit, I would have loved being an architect, but I hated math, despite being good at it. But the building designer bug never left me, and I love creating dwellings. The ability to be able to walk around in a plan in my mind, especially at night when I am awake, always turned out to be correct once it was built.

The new theatre is going to be massive, even bigger than the one before. It consists of 4 parts: the front, middle, stage and back.

Again, I wanted an Art Deco inspired setup, yet threw some Art Nouveau in the mix as well this time, which all fits in with the Sylvanian Families Town series theme.

I also created a light plan, as I wanted to add thin LED light strings easily, make them replaceable if they break, hide the strings, make it estethically as best as possible.

I always try and find cheap or free models, but did not keep the links to them. I also can't share them, because of adding non-commercial files and I never paid for a commercial license.

For the front, I found a non-printable object, an OBJ file.

It had an advantage: it was easily split up in components and then these can be solidified into printable parts. I made it look a lot better, as this was kinda bland. This is the front after juggling with it.

I wanted curved walls, curved steps, add lovely details of the original Angelina Ballerina's drawings. Yes, Angelina Ballerina Sylvanian style critters will still rule this theatre as well! In case you don't know how they are related to Sylvanians: Angelina Ballerina origins

I bought a curly staircase model, which also was not printable to start with. I turned it into a double staircase. Here's a detail of the bottom of a staircase, it's stunning!

This is a front view when the Sylvs will walk into the building. Keep in mind that side panels, banisters and other details are not in this view.

The middle part needed a lot of room for the typical inner parts of a theatre, like toilets, a vestibule, seating, etc. The 4 steps lead up to all of that from the foyer of the theatre, where the staircases are located.

There will be balconies, 2 on each side. This will be the front look, inspired by the original Angelina Ballerina.

The back end contains the stage, which will incorporate parts of the stage of the original Angelina theatre. This view does not include the side balconies below to the sides, as spectators could never look onto the stage well in this setup.

Nice, but it needed something to spruce it up, which I did, with Angelina Ballerina details. I also created lithophanes as backdrops, inspired by the original Angelina Ballerina theatre. Here is my blog about that:

I needed a lounge, snacks stands, catacoms, and an ice cream parlor (it was popular to eat ice cream during intermissions for decades here in Belgium). They will be located in dedicated spots in the theatre.

As usual, I let the model rest for a while, a few months in this case, and decided to redo the back part. Still not happy and scrapped it again.

Next attempt, I used AI to create a 3D model from a free picture I found online. The result was good, but needed work to make it look better. The next view contains the improved AI front bit, and I added a backdrop to it, created from various models I had. I showed it to hub, and he uttered "WOW", so I knew it looked good, lol!

Now, I slapped the model together and this will be it. Not all was added, as the model was so huge, it slowed my computer down a lot. But, you will get the gist. This is the front from an angle.
This is the back from an angle.
It will be printed in beige and purples, with copper accents. It's going to be over 9 foot / 2m70 long!

Nothing will get printed till after we moved to another country. I created another storyline for my future vid to present my new design. Enjoy and I hope you can stand waiting for the result!
